The pillar of this project is the study of light and space in combination with the conservation of the current characters .
Division of diagram is done through the redesign of master brick wall. This wall is no more a building restriction and it becomes the cornerstone which living room and kitchen are faced. The wall is valued by a fireplace/stove built in wall with double view and by two symmetric wall passages so the light can pass across the environments.
Living room is a relaxing environment; you can have a drink with friends, or stay pleasantly around the fireplace in romantic contest. Exposed beams, lights fixture disposition and clear color make a game of lights and shadows that enhances the materials.
Kitchen is located at the back area. It’s divided in an eat-in kitchen close to the fireplace and a dish washing area placed between two kitchen islands.
On the border partition there is an equipped wall with oven column, refrigerator and storage column.
On the opposite side there is a central cooking area where we find other two areas about vegetable washing and an additional work plane.
Central kitchen islands are equipped with shelves on boundary and a frame for hanging pots is on top in order to create the farm character/mood required.
I thought a skylight on roof close to the back wall, leaving the beams exposed on open area (if it’s feasible)in order to increase the light. For this reason also the kitchen’s window is moved and switched with one biggest. Radiator is moved on boarder partition in order to leave space for an additional sideboard with shelves where growing kitchen’s plants.
Kitchen room is changed with different height ceilings and two areas will leave structural beams exposed (skylight and top fireplace area). In this way I can create light courses, dynamism, passage for chimney, for extractor fan and for electrical cables.
As regard materials and finishing, I advise clear colors increasing light inside environments. Original parquet flooring is deep dark and it can change with another one clearer like oak (you can find commercially parquets with reduced depth to apply directly on the old one). Entrance doors are suggested in white wood with frame panels, main door can keep a glass insert to increase lights, but it’s not necessary.
