housing - small-apt
General project description:
Kitchen :
The overall conception of the house interior is to retain the current position of the kitchen in order to highlight the living room as a passage between the den and the rest of the rooms. The space has to be opened by demolishing the wall between the current “living room” and the “kitchen”. This reorganization will successfully create a larger “eat-in-kitchen” that will receive natural light from the living room and from a new integrated roof window within the flat roof of the kitchen volume. The arrangement of this corner will include an “L” organization of the new kitchen cabinets and the existing stove and refrigerator. The configuration also includes an island that will integrate a two bowl sink with two small cabinets as well as a small bar with two eating places. The new kitchen will also receive new appliances such as an exhaust hood and an integrated dishwasher. Another eating corner can be considered that could integrate a table with two chairs in order to receive more space for larger meals. The lighting system includes 4 pendant lamps over the kitchen bar and the eating corner.
Concerning the coating and materials, the kitchen will receive a new wall plaster layer as well as two types of color paintings: Strong White and Rectory red. The floor coating would be replaced as well by adding a new layer of laminate wood parquet.
Living room :
The current position of the living room should be retained in order to create a functional connection between the den and the kitchen. The space will be considered as a reading/computer room that can also integrate multiple activities such as receiving guests or drinking coffee. The main entrance is separated lightly by a simple shelving unit in order to differentiate the outside and inside. The overall organization of the living room is separated by different “corners” – “reading corner”, “computer corner” and “guest corner in the middle of the room”. This configuration will enable different modular arrangements to the likes of the residents. The “reading corner” includes an armchair, side table, floor lamp and a small shelving unit that will successfully create a more individual and intimate space. The “computer corner” includes a desk and a shelving unit situated in the upper corner of the “reading room”. The middle space integrates a table and puff chairs that can be organized depending of the wanted configuration.
The current wall plasters in good condition should be retained. A new painting layer including the Strong white color is integrated. Concerning the exposed brick wall between the current “dining room” and “living room”, the bricks could be retained being refurbished and repainted in “Strong White” color in order to keep the spirit of the “retro” interior. The floor coating could be replaced by adding a new layer of laminate parquet in continuity of the kitchen floor coating. The lighting system includes three pendant lamps fixed between the exposed beams.
