For the design of your house i propose a dark color of shingles, with orizontal texture like in the link you posted ( http://www.houzz.com/photos/20369076/Harwichport-Beach-House-beach-style-exterior-boston ) the corner instead are painted white .
For the wall of windows in the rear of the house to stand out, i suggest to paint it white as the corners of the house , this gives more evidence to that part . Also the column of the fireplace has the same color.
No needs for change the facade.
