I am a single girl and I live alone in a 100 sqm. apartment. The living room is not extra small but quite challenging because it is irregular in shape and with many openings. I really need your help to design it!
I would like a relaxing and elegant room with a timeless design. The room faces north but the apartment is on the last floor and it’s in the tallest building of the neighbourhood, so it is quite bright. In the winter I use the fireplace a lot, during other seasons you see a lot of green from the window.
My top priority is couch and television because I like to watch movies and I prefer to avoid weird angles between the two (however I do not like the television to be the focal point of the room, if possible!).
I also like to have guests so I would like 4 seatings for the living area.
The entryway needs some fix… it feels empty and unfinished.
I imagine there is room enough for something else, please feel free to propose what you think could fit the space well. I really like a “put together look” rather than a mix of things I like but do not really need. The following are just my ideas:
– A dining area is common in living rooms in Italy because apartments usually don’t have a formal dining room. I have a rectangular table for 8 people in the kitchen so it is not mandatory to place another one if there is no room, but a small table could be useful. Either a small round table, a consolle table usually closed or a desk (antique maybe) could work. Please consider that from the door of the kitchen you already see a table (the doors are usually open).
– I like white bookcases very much, real bookcases for books not for objects. I like built-in looks and also short bookcases. Even design bookcase could work but the style should be really unique,I fear furniture that looks out f style in few years.
Furniture & constraints:
Fixed elements are contraints: I am going to keep the fireplace with white mantel and the built-in closet. I cannot move the radiator.
I want to keep my television, it’s 55” (147 x 85 cm, plus feet if not hanged), so it is a kind of big for the room. You cannot put it over the fireplace.
I have some furniture but I will keep them only if they work with the design so please do not consider what you see in the pictures. I like both traditional couch (e.g., english rolled arms) as well as modern ones.
Style:
In general I like “traditional american and british houses”, white furniture, few wooden pieces and natural materials. I don’t like modern wall units that are very common in Italy.
I will not change the color of the walls, it’s a grey with violet and blue undertones and I like it very much. It’s the color for the whole apartment.
Thank you very much for reading this and for your ideas! I am available for any further clarification.
