The new design tries to cut out as many apartments as possible by preserving the original layout, because most of the walls contributes to the static of the building and to the partition of the spaces (also through the vaulted ceilings).
No action on the main walls is planned, and just a couple of secondary walls need to be completely demolished, where they weren't able to place suited rooms for our contemporary life style. All other planned actions are to create openings – more or less wide – in some secondary wall, where needed to get larger and more comfortable living rooms.
Sometimes some apartment have poor access to the sunlight in some areas, then the design prefers to put the sleeping area in the darkest zone than the living rooms. The big rooms in the two corners of the building have just one window facing on the courtyard. Manage them as open spaces increases the supply of light and air. It's worth to evaluate the installation of solar-tubes in the darkest areas of those apartments.
An important issue in the contemporary lifetime is to have as much storage as possible, as well as a laundry or a cabinet for washer and dryer machines. So, the rooms are planned and sized the way that the apartments have the more storage space as possible and a laundry cabinet, at least.
The new layout provides:
- 2 studio-apartments (monolocale) of about 30 and 37 mq;
- 6 medium apartments (bilocale), from 40 to 60 mq;
- 2 large apartments (trilocale e quattro vani) of about 65 and 110 mq.
