The aim of proposed solution is optimizing the space distribution by means the use of furniture systems, minimizing the impact of new walls and fixed elements. This makes possible to re-organize the space when needed and give the perception of a larger apartment. The proposal is based on a mix between spaces that can be transformed during different moments of the day and on standard furniture systems.
The project has been built around the kitchen / living space; here a U shaped countertop (made in marble) allows hosting several cabinets below and a foldable table in the middle. So this small space will get two different flavors at the same time and provides two different functions by using a table (when this is not used, it can be vertically hosted on a niche in the wall) and 4 chairs that can be hung at its right and left. The table has a thick "rib" in the lower face, increasing the bend resistance and avoiding so the use of legs and other vertical elements.
A wooden partition divides the kitchen/living space from the sofa/TV area. This is 2 meters high in order to split the two different functions but allowing the direct connection between the two spaces (allowing also the light and the air to pass through). The sofa is a pull-out couch to allow transforming the space according to its main use: sofa during the day, bed for the night. In the right hand of the house there is the study corner (with a desk and an office chair) and a walk-in closet. This allows to minimize the need of specific furniture and maximizes the space utilization.
The floor is thought to be in light parquet, in order to give the perception of a wider house using the light. The only two walls to be built are those for the restroom; the larger wall is slanted for minimizing the width at the door side and increasing the available space where this is needed more: in front of the WC, the bidet and for the shower.
The two wooden partitions (that one between the kitchen and the sofa and the other facing the walk-in closet) are in red oak and give to the space a strong sight.
The rest of furniture is thought in light and clear wood except the kitchen plane (marble) and the metallic exhaust equipment (extractor hood) in the kitchen. This is a cylindrical extractor with grille, hung to the soffit using four steel wires and connected with the outside by means an inox finished flex duct.
Walls and soffits are finished with a white plaster; the same color is used for the door panels.
