GENERAL STRATEGY
The effort is focused on the recovery of an existent and degraded space in order to revitalise it according to the new programme requested by the client.
Therefore, the general strategy is based in the placement of two elements that act like homogenisers of the space, creating a new identity. Moreover, these homogenisers work as the required equipment giving solution to the functional requests demanded by the new programmes of Terrace and Cinema.

01CLOTH
The suggested strategy includes the positioning of a Large Cloth that solves the following points:

01 Homogenises the space through the ceiling which is extended to the outside, giving the Project a conciliatory characteristic

02 Generates a space of shade and protection from the rain in order to promote the use of the Terrace

03 Solves the darkening problems, which are essential to the proper functioning of the Cinema

04 Projection Space. It is suggested to project perpendicularly to the longitudinal walls, due to the fact that this strategy change of the projection space increases the Projection Space itself.

02STORAGE WALL
Inspired by the former use of this place as storage, we think of a “storage wall” to solve the following points:

01 Return a continuous line to the East wall, in order to homogenise and provide a conciliatory characteristic to the entire Project

02 Acts as “equipment wall” for the different requirements of each space:

TERRACE
Storage: cushions, deck chairs, drinks, utensils, etc.
Additional uses: Fire place, pond, external kitchen, etc.

HALL
General storage

Technical spaces: thermal conditioning (cooling-heating), electric cabinet, etc.

CINEMA
Technical spaces: projector, sound equipment, electric cabinet, air-conditioned area for drinks or/and snacks, etc.
Specific storage: DVDs, blankets, cushions, etc.
General storage (warehouse): Designed for the house, which has lost storage spacebecause of the change of use in the attic.

SPECIFIC STRATEGIES

01FLOOR BOXES
The Cinema always requires a “floor moving” to generate better visuals for the different spectators.
Therefore, and in order to have an equipment furniture to enjoy the cinema, a “floor furniture” or “floor boxes” are proposed. They are composed of 7 rows of boxes that contain cushions in their inside.
These boxes allow two ways of disposition: first, when they are all at same level and the screen is rolled up, the attic could be continuously used for different purposes. Second, when the screen is rolled down, the cushions are withdrawn from the boxes and they are placed like tiers that allow us to enjoy the film!

02THE ESSENTIAL IS INVISIBLE TO THE EYES
The introduction of a skylight requested by the client, has led us to think that maybe the true enjoyable cinema is in front of us and accessible to all; it is just the immensity of our sky.
For that reason, we changed the Cinema into a spectacle of nature by placing this skylight in a strategic point, where we just need to lie down, raise the curtains and enjoy the stars.
