The Design intent is to make a hallway more of a functional area rather than only a space that takes you from Point A to Point B.
The proposal is to transform long hallways by playing with scale and perspective so as to draw attention to the walls, the ceiling or the floor, thereby breaking up the monotonous expanse into smaller fragments.
Shallow bookshelves are proposed on the long wall with niches in the retaining wall (we propose inserting steel members to make the niches in the wall- please refer section BB') to provide you with comfortable reading space. This not only looks great, but it’s a functional way to use otherwise wasted hallway space as well. A full length wall mounted mirror has been suggested opposite the bedroom door.
A collection of identically framed pieces of paintings is suggested to be placed over the floor light which enhances the visual impression for the paintings.
Hang some small art within larger frames above the shoe rack just in front as you enter the home. This gets maximum big bang for your visual buck. Keys can be placed over its surface with an abstract sculpture at the corner of the table.
Modern art pieces / sculptures of vibrant and contrasting colour are suggested to be placed in the existing shelves in the hallway to compliment integrity of the spaces.
The wooden seating in the niches is painted in vibrant colour (deep orange) to overwhelm the theme.
Translucent fabric canopies suspended from the ceiling at a height below the ceiling pendant light are proposed to provide indirect light and also to break the height of the corridor. This will help reduce the tunnel effect of the hallway.
The MGM poster is retained to be placed on the wall joining the window at the entrance with frames and curtains are proposed for the doors and windows.
