The idea was to make a layout that enables the engineers to both work on their individual assignment and for a group projects as well as presenting their ideas in the same space.
The most effective layout is the one that line workstations on opposite ends for engineers to focus on their personal assignment and simply by turning their chairs around they can make a discussion circle. If a writing/presentation board is placed in one side of the circle then the circle can quickly turn into a presentation setting.

By placing the workstations facing the walls the walkway between desks will be wider, compared to back to back desks layout, making a more comfortable circulation.

Individual workstations will be the place where the engineers spend most of their time and where the main activity of the lab will be conducted in which other activities are placed around them. Group workstation will also serve as an examination table for the objects that come out from the 3D printers and chamber and bath. Presentation space is located at the south end of the space, as well as where the new location for the access door directly from the office.

The existing concrete block and the steel column are left just as it is because it helps create the raw industrial look for the studio space. It can be repainted with white matte finish to give a more sterile look. The new wall facing west is finished with the same brick siding as in the office. The floor is finished with cream epoxy finish, the same colour as the floor of existing design studio.

The door is styled like a vintage industrial door with iron frame, with the base panel made from wood or steel for a crash proof. The window can also be an iron framed window or can be made exactly like existing window.
