Main designing points in this project were to make this room comfortable, functional and inspiring for working and collaborating, and to be a part of the already existing style of the firm. The interior was inspired by firehouse elements that we considered convenient for a productive work environment.

Brick walls were put on the ends of this room in order to make it less long appearing. Firehouse inspired windows are optional and were put on the new west wall. From a user’s perspective they give this space a feel of openness and encourage creativity so we highly recommend them. A warm atmosphere was achieved by using brick covering and wooden workbenches. Positioning the workbenches towards the walls enables an easy access to the engineer’s work places and storage and makes collaboration easier (they easily scroll to each other’s table for consultation and teamwork). Floor can be colored in gray or stay as it is. Both options work with design proposal.

The eight workbenches are placed so to create two working micro zones (left and right from the door), one presentation zone that features a large writing wall panel, TV, projector, mini library and storage, and a lot of storage space near workbenches. Each workbench has its own lamp for working with small components, space for necessary equipment (storage, drawers and shelves) and monitor. The number of table can go up to 11. Workstation size is 60" long x 30" wide, with integrated shelving for equipment storage and Electrical Power Kits. The room is 13’ wide and 10’ height.

Grid type ceiling is used to avoid bringing fire sprinklers into the Lab. In combination with chosen lights industrial look is achieved. Fireproof double door on the newly built wall is placed in front of the exiting door and makes easier transportation of large equipment. Existing Lab Space can be used as storage space or remain a Lab.
