Descrizione Progetto

The redevelopment of Orchha Railway Station is envisioned as a harmonious blend of contemporary transit infrastructure and deep cultural resonance, celebrating the architectural heritage of the historic town while providing a modern, efficient, and sustainable public facility.

Taking inspiration from Orchha’s grand palaces, chhatris, and temple forms, the station’s design integrates traditional elements with modern parametric design techniques. The façade features a parametric lattice screen that draws from local jaali patterns—digitally reinterpreted to create a dynamic, climate-responsive skin. This architectural expression filters sunlight, promotes airflow, and casts intricate shadows across the concourse, enhancing both comfort and visual interest.

The station’s spatial planning is highly functional and user-centric, with clear separation between different passenger flows and service zones. Key design features include:

A heritage-inspired entry gateway leading to a spacious, light-filled entrance lobby

Digital ticketing and information kiosks integrated with the central hall

Well-ventilated waiting lounges, food court, and retail kiosks

Universal accessibility with ramps, tactile paths, lifts, and accessible restrooms

Platform canopies with tensile membrane structures and shading pergolas

Security and staff zones, parcel and utility areas, and a VIP lounge

Sustainability is a cornerstone of the project. The building integrates solar rooftop panels, rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, and passive cooling strategies. The planning takes into account prevailing wind directions and sun paths, ensuring cross-ventilation and energy efficiency throughout the station.

The landscape design features green courts, water features, and locally adapted vegetation, creating a serene and shaded environment that mirrors the ambiance of Orchha’s riverside ghats and palace gardens. The station forecourt has been carefully designed to ensure smooth traffic circulation, pedestrian safety, and multimodal integration with auto-rickshaws, buses, and private vehicles.

With its architectural sensibility rooted in local heritage, and its planning aligned with modern standards and sustainable principles, the new Orchha Railway Station becomes a civic landmark—bridging tradition and technology, while providing a dignified, comfortable, and future-ready travel experience for all.
