The project locates in Kazakhstan, in a history town - Turkistan.
The main goal is to create a modern library which is interested to young
people. Thus there appeared a question: how to attract youth, taking into
account poor relations between libraries and studetns today. Analyzing
todays trends the building got the functions, not as a typical library. A
contemporary library is not a storage for books. Nowadays it is for learn-
ing, studying, place for exhibitions, open lectures, co-working space for
individuals, opportunity for small lab spaces and group working. As an
extra attraction there were added such functions as open cinema on a
rooftop, cafeteria and entertainment otside.
The form is based on a history. Library is a type of buildings which rep-
resents the story itself. The form combines traditions and modernity. The
dome is made as a main hall, which is an exhibition space with pictures
about Turkistan on the walls. There are also minarets. Before it was used
as a call or attraction for people for a pray. In a project the minarets are
presented in a contemporary way and by its form and lighting it attracts
people’s curiosity and interest. These forms are used for study as well,
just as extra volumes.
Thus the building will be a landmark of Turkistan as for local people as
for tourists.
