The White Cube is a 135sq.m apartment in Kifisia, Thessaloniki. The apartment is on the top floor of a 7storeys building therefore it is bright and airy. It was renovated from scratch. The architectural design was based on separating the functions of public and private living. Initially the kitchen could be approached by two entrances. Cancelling one of them the only entrance remained from the living room. Therefore maximum functionality was achieved.
The most impressive construction of the living room is the white library which is placed in both sides of the fireplace. It integrates a TV and the radiator in such a way that allows warm air flow in space through perforated woodwork. The white construction is interrupted by the oak boxes and the fireplace which is coated with kourassanit in gray hue.
The white color dominates throughout the apartment. In particular, the floor is white marble of Thasos, the internal walls are in white shades as well as the interior and the exterior doors and furnishings. The only element that differs is the main dining table in gray shades, which combines two of the same shade materials, wood and stone.
Geometric forms characterize the overall design of the apartment. Small “gestions” of organic shapes in the perforated panel which isolates the kitchen, as well as in the central ceiling light creates a new, less formal sense of geometry.
The lighting was crucial for designing the whole apartment. Hidden linear lighting is diffused through the suspended ceilings. Directional lighting-spots in combination with overall lighting create a relaxing atmosphere.
The same design issues are followed in private living space with white and grey shades on the walls and furnishing.
