Descrizione

Main goal for this design was to create a warm and comfortable loft and to adapt to the new function while respecting the found structure of an old stable.
Entering the loft there is a small enclosed area for acclimatization leading to a hallway and common area on the ground floor. This area is designed as an open plan and consists of a spacious dining area with kitchen and living room overlooking the fireplace and back garden. Creating a big glass wall on the back of the loft enables letting as much of the south sunlight into space and exposing the stone wall as a part of an interior.

Two upper floors are designed as private spaces with bedrooms. First floor has a small hallway leading to two spacious double bedrooms equipped with a wardrobe, desk/makeup table and private bathroom. For a second bedroom there was added a small balcony overlooking the garden. Stairs connecting the first floor and attic lead to a small hallway and entrance to the master bedroom. Sleeping area is located under the highest point of the roof giving it enough space, while the spacious wardrobe and master bathroom gained height adding dormer window. South side of the facade is opened with big glass walls, enabling a lot of light coming into space and entrance to the private balcony overlooking the garden.

In order to make renovation energy and cost efficient, all of the walls are preserved and remaining exposed to the interior, new wall are made of stone as well to resemble old ones, new windows are all facing south side, while floor slabs and roof are changed with adding heath and sound insulation. Movable glass partitions in the garden terrace give the opportunity to enjoy it all year round and at the same time generate greenhouse passive heat for warming the loft in winter time.

Loft is designed as a luxury mountain retreat, adapted to the modern needs but maintaining the spirit of the old barn and respecting it's heritage.
