Our project investigates the possibility to arrange a modern villa in continuity with the local traditions. For this reason we adopt dark wooden furniture pieces, low sofas, red hanging fans, outdoor living rooms, as fragments of Indian living culture. At the same time we don’t renounce to engage with contemporary architectural solutions.
In this view, also the façade is treated with a simple white plaster finishing. The result is a simple white volume immersed in the beautiful nature of palms and vegetation of the terraces. Further decorations are not required. We believe that adding even a tile of travertine on this façade will distort the precarious balance of the volumes.
In the following you’ll find in detail our proposal:
On the ground floor our proposal consists in 4 main interventions:
1) The entrance is preserved in its former location protected by the loggia. This is added to the one under the stairs, which becomes the “service” entrance.
2) A family lounge is connected to the dining room and projected on the front yard.
3) The kitchen is subdivided in 3 different areas with some generous storage space, a L-shaped counter, and a breakfast lounge.
4) The temple is located in an open-air area of the backyard. The sacred area is elevated on a 2’-high basement.
On the first floor we propose to replace the glass partition wall in front of the staircase with a wooden wall made of vertical battens. This strategy allows the light to enter in the rooms while dividing space.
As required in the brief we connected the master bedroom with a private living room closing the former door and creating a new opening.
The proposal for the kitchen is to demolish the existing wall at the counter level, this will open the kitchen on the dining room.
In the second master bedroom we divided the room with a wall lower than the ceiling. The result consists in a private living room and a more private sleeping area.
On the second floor we propose a cinema room as the “heart” of this floor. Wooden walls will enclose this room with sliding doors on the sides and foldable panels on the back, in this way the room can be obscured during movie projections.
We propose for the master bedroom, as on the lower floor, to separate the sleeping area from a small private gallery in connection with the bathroom and the dress room.
On the terrace our proposal is the one to add a conspicuous number of plants, dividing 3 different areas: a solarium area with concrete floor, a green terrace with wooden floor, a square sitting block with different plantations inside.
The mezzanine will be used as a private gym and yoga room.
Our proposal for the rooftop plan is to divide the rear area from the front one with a pergola mounted on a wooden deck.
The bar area is placed next to a swimming pool.
The lift is connected to a core of utility spaces as the technical room and a small bathroom.
The proposal for the mezzanine/deck is to enclose one part to host a family lounge and reading room connected with the exterior patio.
