Historic House of Policastro – Renovation and Functional Adaptation

The renovation project for the Historic House of Policastro focuses on transforming the ground floor of this historic home into a functional and contemporary apartment while respecting its original architecture and structural layout. The design aimed to maximize the functionality of the existing spaces without altering the load-bearing walls, achieving an efficient and harmonious distribution.

The ground floor has been organized to include an entry hall, a modern kitchen integrated with a laundry area, a cozy living room, a spacious master bedroom, and an auxiliary room, all designed to provide comfort and optimize space usage. To offer independence between the levels, the staircase access was relocated outside, allowing occupants of both floors to enjoy complete privacy, turning the two floors into functionally independent areas.

On the upper level, an open rooftop was designed to protect users from the sun while maintaining panoramic views of the surroundings, allowing them to appreciate the scenic beauty of Policastro. Additionally, an outdoor kitchen was incorporated, enhancing the enjoyment of the exterior space. Alongside the terrace, a bedroom with a private bathroom was added, fully equipped with all necessary amenities to ensure a comfortable experience while preserving the building’s unique and traditional character.

This project strikes a balance between historic charm and modern functionality, creating a flexible and adaptable apartment that meets contemporary needs while preserving the site’s identity and appeal.
