Descrizione

Adding space should not be at the expense of the outside space. If the house has to grow, it has to grow up, upwards. The ground floor Keeps most of the external skin yet knocks down secondary walls in order to achieve a more open and fluid space. The living room opens broadly towards the veranda and the yard through a wide 3 pane sliding window. The existing structural system is sought to be kept where possible, yet in certain spots (like the newly opened windows) a simple support post and beam are applied. The garage has a wider door which also operates as a secondary entrance for the studio, studio space which includes its own full bathroom and sufficient space to operate as a guest room if need be. The entrance terrace space is substituted by a profiled glass wrapped stairway, which at night serves as an external lighting feature.
The first floor has 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms, a in suite dressing room, laundry room and a large terrace. The original roof is substituted by a lightweight prefabricated structure in order to use the existing structural joints, for budget and also for aesthetic concerns. The central hallway is crowned by a clerestory, and the bathrooms ventilate by skylight windows.
