Hello!
We’re a young couple (I’m Italian and she’s German) with a small baby girl. We have recenty moved to a new house. Our new house has already been completely renovated, so we don’t want to renovate again, but rather we would like “modernize” the apartment through the furniture and decoration.
The living area,
The living area has some particular issues, as it’s asymmetric and the walls are already “occupied” (as the french door that leads to the terrace, and the stairs that lead to the attic and the TV plugs are all on the side of the living room). What’s more, the main entrance door also opens to this room that we would like to sheild. Maybe with a shelving unit that would be parallel with main wall that could also work as a shoe rack once you enter the house.
Here’s a summary of our specific needs and necessities
A dining table suitable for seating guests
Creating and sitting area that would also be suitable for watching tv (no sofa with chaise)
A custom made library/shelving unit to store dishware and other objects
Shielding the sight of those who enter from the main entrance
We prefer a rectangular table, extendable when needed. (The kitchen where we usually dine is too small for having guests).
The sitting angle should must function as a space where people can have face to face conversations, something that has not been possible with a sofa with chaise. So where needed, armchairs can be added instead of sofas.
The only TV plug available at the moment is where the television currently is. We can make another one by making a hole in the wall that separates the living room from the terrace.
Please note that there’s not much light, so dining where the table is at the moment is not the best choice.
Since there’s a dark parquet for the pavement, we’re looking for “light” furniture, both in color and feel, in order to avoid the too-full sensation in the room.
We can get rid of the applique, the curtains, the TV unit and the round table for a radical innovation.
If really necessary, we can also consider small changes in the construction.
2. The Attic
I would like to create a small study in the office, for which we require custom made furniture
On the “short” side, a cupboard with glass openings to store bottles and cigars and insert the air conditionar.
On the triangle wall where the door opens: a bookshelf. I would prefer one that is larger on the bottom half, with close doors, but I am open to any ideas. A desk (at least 5cm) that could be retractable, but not necessarily.
A sofa in front of the wall with TV that should be inserted in the bookshelf or where currently there’s a painting with a frame..
