The project defines 3 phases of construction. 1st phase: full refurbishment of the Main House, new extended windows are suggested in the main rooms.
2nd - Implementation of the Terrace with swimming pool in the southern part, this part is protected from winds and has the longest sunny hours.
3rd - Connection with the other House. Glazed corridor connects both houses in both levels. On the ground floor it can turn into cosy terrace with the hanging hammock and dining place, while on the first floor I have proposed a corridor connecting garage with the second floor. Currently, I have proposed to use it as a bedroom/guest room. Later on the transit room, which is accessible from inner yard (old stairs remained), garage and corridor can turn into music room.
The strong point of the suggested space layout is connectivity: each floor is working separately, is accessible from each ground level (you can enter directly to your working studio, bedroom or kitchen). The complexity is simplified by organizing main flows along the main axis of the house, which becomes the main decorative accent reminding previous usage of barn and showing original structure of the house. (Inside wall doesn't require insulation). This system improves flexibility of future changes.
The culmination point of the house is the living room - enlarged space with high ceilings, the intersection of two floors is glazed and acts as a transistor of spaces. Living room becomes visible from second floor as well. One high wall under the glazed stairs is dedicated to the library (one of the dream of clients).
