A restored winery in Santorini island

The object of this project was the restoration of an old, traditional winery on a steep slope of Santorini island with a new use as a boutique hotel.

The renovated winery would host up to 10 guests in 4 different rooms. The existing volumes were carved onto the dark volcano rock. Our design followed this rocky, primitive instinct, transforming each room into a cozy, private cave with natural materials, such as local stone and raw wood.

One of our primary intentions was to not divide each space with conventional walls, but with shorter
dividers, dressed in dark cement mortar, almost like volcanic sculptures which allowed a continuous dome ceiling.
