Monsano Kindergarten

The project required the expansion of an existing kindergarten– including ahistoric building renovated after the earthquake and an earlier extension projectfrom the 1980s – changed with time in its dimensions and type. The new projecthad to account for the increased number of students resulting from thesignificant development which has taken place in the small municipality in thelast ten years, in which many people from the surrounding regions, especiallyJesi, have taken up residence in the area. The project was commissioned by themunicipality and required a special study, especially as regards the speed ofcompletion, the comfort of the students, and the impact on the territory. The newwing (of approximately 300 m2) plays host to a cafeteria for some 140 children, twonew halls, a large bathroom and a storage area of about the same size located onthe basement level. The design decisions were directed toward a typology in woodthat could meet the needs of comfort and speedy construction. The result is aninviting building that looks beautiful, especially to children, thanks to its curtainwall in colourful laminate, and is practical, since the designers were able toachieve a level of comfort much greater than the normal standards offered bystructures built using traditional techniques.
