Retail food stores and social life is hit hard in New York City by the COVID-19 crises. AmphISPIRAL aims to revitalize outdoor areas by providing space for food retailers, farmers, and people who would like to enjoy outdoor activities during these hard times. The structure houses diverse activities under one roof, such as food retail, picnicking, sunbathing, resting, and socializing. Its spiral shape resembles an amphitheater and presents an opportunity for the community to come together for performances. It is made of easily mountable sustainable material. Wood boards have six feet signs on them to show the safe distances between users. The sign is minimal but located on both usable edges of the wood boards. The overall design celebrates the dynamic and diverse culture of the city and aims to remain after the pandemic with faded six feet signs.
