The concept of the project came from the desire to integrate 3 main elements in every unit of the hotel: sea, earth, and sky. With this premise in mind, we added the reinterpretation of the historical mayan architecture to create an identity that payed homage to the site’s history, while adapting it to modern times living.

I proposed a very simple architecture, based in order, simple forms, minimalist aesthetics, and one that takes advantage of local materials, such as stones, wood, local stuccos such as chukum, and the use of exposed concrete. These ideas combined, aim to create an architecture that evokes the gravitas and the monumentality of the historical mayan temples, yet, adapted to modern times with a timeless aesthetic that will blend with nature and its surroundings over time.

The project was approached as a series of independent units. Each unit was conceptualized as an outdoors terrace that blends indoors and outdoors living (to provide the users with permanent contact with the jungle) and that is enclosed on strategic spots to provide privacy where needed by big walls that resemble huge pieces of rock inspired by mayan architecture.
