housing - small-apt
Having analyzed the space and your requirements we focused in making space more useful and deleting those elements that didn´t improve the functionality of your house.
On the ground floor we have applied an open-concept distribution, where the kitchen, dining and living room share the space. We eliminated the wall that closed the kitchen and instead, installed a screen on the ceiling that can be rolled down to establish some privacy when needed, but will provide a visual continuity in the rest of the cases. We find this kind of composition very confortable and useful in terms of every day life.
We deleted the small room prior the toilet and built a big wardrobe under the stairs where the washing machine and other related appliances could be stored. Also, a suspended cabinet is proposed in between the kitchen and this space to make a transition.
The living room is transformed now into a big space where different uses can be occurring simultaneously. There is the dining area placed as a hinge spaced, where anyone could be studying or playing. next to the fireplace, that link this space with the stairs. The sofa can be understood as something that crosses the wall as it connects with the outer gazebo space. We also thought of a place where to rest or read a book that includes a chaise longue and a bookshelf.
The first floor is probably the one we have modified the most. We have changed the situation of the bathroom and placed it next the stairs, using the closet where the chimney is to pass all the conducts down with any problem. This toilet also has natural light and ventilation as it is opened to the stairs (without any visual impact, as they will be below).
The corridor that leads to the main bedroom has a visual connection as we designed a kind of window that can be opened and closed and also used as a control to the girl´s playroom. We stablished a first dressing and storage sector before arriving the sleeping area. This also provides a transition and insulates the space. The two armchairs allows the bedroom to be also a place to sit, chat and read, with out being totally disconnected from the rest of the house as this interior window binds both areas.
The girl´s room is thought from the theory of dividing the space in three different uses instead of giving one space for each child: a place to sleep, a place to play and a place to study. We think this will intensify the relation and collaboration of the three sisters. The first area is the dressing area, which creates a corridor that leads to the sleeping room where all the beds are settled and which includes a big storage space. Just in front of the big window, is the play room. We take advantage of the sun and views that will make this space a wonderful area to play in. Half of the floor will be covered with a carpet where they will be able to play. The upper most area is saved for studying. Here, again, there is plenty of light and also storage place. The fact that is isolated contributes to keeping the space in silence.
