The Concept — Threshold as Architecture
The organizing principle of ITACA Garden is the threshold — the moment of transition between one spatial condition and another. The project is conceived as a choreographed sequence of thresholds, each one moving the inhabitant progressively from the functional interior of the house through increasingly soft, organic, and contemplative outdoor spaces, until the boundary between architecture and nature dissolves entirely.
This sequence — from kitchen counter to terrace step, from terrace to stepping stone path, from path to circular lawn, from lawn to the wild perimeter planting — is the project's fundamental spatial narrative. It is not accidental. Every transition has been designed, every material change considered, every level shift resolved with the same intention: to make the journey from inside to outside feel like a gradual release rather than an abrupt departure.

"Architecture is not about buildings. It is about the life that happens inside them — and, when the building is generous enough to step aside, the life that happens around them."
ITACA Garden, Carlentini SR, Italia, 2026
