Descrizione Progetto

The description of the project is divided into 3 phases:
- Considerations and dislike about the current state
- Reflections on the ideas and needs of the customer
- Analysis of the design's choices

CONSIDERATIONS AND DISLIKE ABOUT THE CURRENT STATE

MAIN FLOOR

Entrance.
Poor integration with other environments and poor functionality: the arrangement of entry, taking up space in the living room and doesn’t make the area welcoming. Entering in the house you can see immediately the dining area.

Living Room.
Limited Space for a living area.
Glass Surface: the windows are discontinuous and the view of the lake is not valorised.
Absence of Wall: there is the difficulty of using the support fot TV, bookcase or furniture.
Roof Slope: the roof has a slope that makes the entrance area larger than the living area.

Dining Room
Limited Space: it would be appropriate to gain some space for a bigger dining table and more comfortable passage.
Windows and Light: it’s not clear the choice of the position of the window that gives low light to environment and it’s also isolated.

Kitchen
Cramped Environment: if it were placed on one or two lines, this kitchen would be very large, but the “U” shape makes it be dark and narrow.
Cumbersome Island: the Island is large but too bulky for the transition and for convenient use.

Bathrooms and Utility Rooms
The bathroom is not bright and it have a not efficient disposition.
The guests bathroom is small and blind.
Pantry and Storage have many edges and uncomfortable openings.

BASEMENT

Sleeping Area and Office
Totally not satisfying the needs of the client.

OUR REFLECTIONS ON IDEAS AND NEEDS OF THE CLIENT

After careful analysis of the current state, through photos and floor plans, we began to reflect on the intervention to implement your needs. We started from the ideas of the "U" shaped hallway and the extension of the entrance area.

1) EXTENSION OF THE ENTRANCE AREA
Delete the "L" entry and expand the living area it seemed us like an excellent idea. The availability for modifying the structure, has given us the opportunity to design a great new environment that we will describe in the next section.

2) “U” SHAPED HALLWAY
Also this idea seemed to us immediately reasonable. We tried to find a solution that made the house more livable and bright, without favoring one room rather than another. All the hallway between the environments are designed to facilitate the connection between the basement and service room.

3) NUMBER AND QUANTITY
All the planning is based on the need to have spaces: functional, well-arranged and livable for a large family. So we decided to design a spaces that would make the invironments clean and tidy, that's why we chose to make a large space for storage of food, utensils and household products.

ANALYSIS OF CHOICES PROJECT

MAINFLOOR

1) Main Entry and Living Room
Your request was to have large windows that open towards the lake, and expanded the living space. We have received your request and we acted accordingly. We developed the idea of dismantling the existing wooden structure and make a new one leaning on the existing floor/platform. The new timber frame is constituted by 4 o 6 pillars, 22x22 cm and by beams not visible. This structure allows the creation of large windows that open on both sides toward the lake. On the west side there is only one dividing wall that divides the sliding doors and serves as a support to a TV. The widening of the entrance gives way to a large sofa with free composition (we suggest a sofa "L"). The east wall becomes a big fitted wall with shelves and wooden sleepers, with the function of the wardrobe near the entrance, library, or for the support and containment of objects in space remaining.

2) Dining Room
We have expanded the dining room, pulling back the bathroom wall. We increased the natural lighting by transferring the window of the old entrance, next to the one currently in the dining room.

3) Kitchen
This central area of the house, becomes fully open, livable, functional and bright. On the wall there is a large kitchen with stove and oven and with side selve and drawers. At the top there are wall units suspended or closed with glass doors and a large hood. Towards the stairs there is the double column fridge, double freezer or freezer + wine cellar (see 4. pantry). In the middle of the area dedicated to the kitchen there is a large island with double sinks, big drawers 90 cm for recycling, removable drainer, dishwasher and drawers for cutlery and utensils. On the other side there is a bench with four large stations for breakfast or quick meals. On the wall there is a larghe bench under the window with containers, on which the children can play and wait for the meal. All steps are comfortable, not only for communication with the dining room, but also for those coming from downstairs or outside.

4) Pantry or “core”
We cosider this, the added value of the house, for its location, utility and functions, we have nicknamed this "core". The reasons why we have included the pantry in the project are manifold. Here are the main ones:
- Support to the structure. We initially thought the kitchens that take also the area of this room, but remove all the walls with wood frame could compromising the stability of the cover. This compartment is perfectly central for performing this function.
- High degree of usefulness for the kitchen and home. Rather than build a huge kitchen, we reflected on the idea of a "smart" kitchen, easy to use and clean, where you have to hand everything needed for most meals, but it was supported by a large pantry stock (with other wine cellars or freezers if needed). In the pantry, you can put many things, so as to maintain orderly dining kitchen and bathrooms.
- Size and flexibility of use. This room has three wall systems. There are open shelves but also branches and closed containers. It can work as a pantry for the kitchen, but also, simultaneously, from storage of tools, for cleaning the house etc.

5) Guest Bathroom
Larger than the current and it is no more a blind bathroom. The door that was there before is converted to window without challenging works on the wall.

6) Kid’s Bathroom
We reversed the position of the sinks from west to east maintaining services and shower as closely as possible to the current position. The environment is separated into two distinct parts so as to allow the simultaneous use of the two zones maintaining privacy. The W.C area and shower and is illuminated by a partition wall with translucent panels or matton glass. The east wall is completely used for the sinks. Linear, easy to keep clean and tidy.

7) Lundry
Spacious, linear and functional, easy to access for who comes from the stairs or outside. With a large counter, sink, cabinets or selve.

8) Sleeping Area
The sleeping area is a sort of arch behind the kitchen and stairs. Rather than transform the study into a bedroom, we preferred to join the rooms, to keep kids close. The 4 rooms are the same size and all have a large wardrobe and a desk. Each of them has a special feature.
The BR1 has a study area more intimate, within a niche. The BR2 is larger and has access to the balcony. The BR3 has a particular headboard, the desk is encased in a niche as reference image, and there is the possibility to use the chimney in the future, if the room becomes a guest room or a study. The BR4 have a cupboard and a sitting under the window.
The wardrobe can obviously be with double doors, but it might be convenient, cheaper and flexible over time, to use heavy curtains with graphics and colors. Curtains that can be washed and replaced. They may also be colored by the children. The curtains also make it easier to clean inside the wardrobe.

9) Secondary entrance and stairs.
The stairs and the secondary entrance, have direct access to the central part of the house (kitchen), to the kid’s bath and laundrty. In the corner between secondary entrance and laundry is provided a wall hanger and a small console compartment.

BASEMENT

1) Family area, games and bar
The arrangement remains essentially the same, but also in this plan we have obtained a large pantry behind the bar and a poker room with a large wall to store games. This room can also be considered as a study room. The bar is revitalized by new counters and coatings with light colors. Near the fireplace we thought a great seat sub window with seating and containers for discs, DVDs and books. The TV can be put on the wall or in a support.

2) Master Bedroom
The sleeping area reserved for parents, occupies the northern part. Just down the stairs, you can access in a sort of hallway connected to the large walk-in closet. On the left there is the entrance to the Master room with a king size bed, and a particular headboard with integrated bedside tables and library. On the front there is a large cabinet with open or closed containers, and a space for the TV. Through the sliding doors, that separate but they also give the feeling of living in a single environment, you leads on the large bathroom with double sink, W.C. and laundry. The shower is double, with a seat and niche to put objects. All windows are not moved. The health and discharges are close to those of the upper floor. Would be preferable clear finishes.
