Gaeta, LT, Italia
Residenziale - Appartamento
The renovation of the Dúplex Gaeta aims to optimize space distribution, prioritizing functionality and modernization without compromising structural stability.
On the first level, room accesses were reorganized to efficiently integrate the new staircase. Originally, each of the three bedrooms had its own door leading to the hallway. As part of the intervention, the direct access to Bedroom 1 was removed, and a new opening was created in the wall shared with Bedroom 2, allowing both rooms to share a single entrance from the hallway. This freed up the entire wall of Bedroom 1, where the staircase leading to the attic is now located.
In the kitchen, a new bathroom was incorporated, strategically positioned next to the existing one to facilitate plumbing installation and minimize the need for major modifications to the sanitary network.
In Bedroom 3, a new opening was created to connect it with the former guest bathroom, converting it into a private en-suite for this room.
In the attic, a living area will be designed, featuring sofas, a dining table for six or more people, and a space dedicated to movie screenings. The wall facing the terrace will include a built-in niche with cushions, providing a cozy spot for reading or enjoying the surrounding views. The terrace will also feature a sofa for additional comfort.
From a structural perspective, a section of the attic slab will be opened above the staircase area. This intervention will not only reduce the structural load but also enhance natural lighting and create a sense of spaciousness by introducing a double-height space over the entrance, hallway, and dining area. The openings in the walls have been strategically planned to ensure they do not compromise the apartment’s stability. Additionally, structural reinforcement with metal profiles can be implemented in key areas to guarantee safety.
