The idea which is at the basis of the project first born from the definition and reorganization of the interior space: following the instructions of the client, this house will be rearrange in order to create a welcoming, bright and modern home for a young professional couple with a small dog and meet as many needs as possible.

Our main goal is to find a new overall arrangement for the open space area, incorporate the current entrance, kitchen, dining and living spaces into an open feel and integrated area and therefore give uniformity of style. Moreover, we will check and reassess the arrangement of the master bedroom and walk-in closet; we will rearrange the office in a more functional way and we will decorate the balcony space.

Gathering from the client's requirements, we will not change the existing flooring and we will not intervene on walls’ layout with new partition or demolition but we will limit ourselves to a decoration concept.


ENTRANCE
The entrance seems pretty narrow and, therefore, it was necessary to make the best use of the limited space available (the room just needed a quick fixie). We find inspiring the idea of a white suspended shoe cabinet that can provide handy storage (and round up all kinds of things besides shoes), a black framed mirror next to it and an upper black shelf. In this way we will underline, highlight and emphasize the importance of the entrance from a functional (storage and shelf) and aesthetic (mirror, paints, frames colors) point of view without have to painting walls but only with some DIYs.


GUEST BATHROOM
On the right of the entrance, there is a guest bath that will be also the “male’s bathroom”: client's pictures show how necessary it is to match the existing furnishing with a design-scheme combining basic materials and natural colors in order to make it bigger, wider and elegant. Our proposal is to use slate tiles or concrete-like tiles in order to give a uniformity of color and elegance without any unnecessary decorations, which allows the gray / charcoal tiles to stand out. This space will be visually enhanced with the clever use of the built-in mirrored wall.


MASTER BEDROOM
First of all, we started our concept with some considerations regarding colors: a color introduces personality wherever it goes, and the bedroom is no exception. The most appropriate solution from the economic and functional point of view is to use a single fresh color on just one wall and in accents such as throw pillows or lamps, while keeping a more soothing neutral tone throughout the room. You can also choose a wall shade in a neutral color with a hint of something brighter. Generally, the most suitable colors for bedrooms are neutral or relaxing colors that encourage relaxation and rest. Furthermore, do not forget that the bedroom is part of a house, and then, the color you will choose should be harmonized in a right way with all the other colors, although they are not in direct contact. For these reasons, we find inspiring the idea of use a worn turquoise / aquamarine color palette as a main color on the wall backward the bed with the other walls white painted. It symbolizes flow and harmony and the browns of the bed frame, nightstands and padded headboard frame work as a counterpoint to the main color. As stated, other tones or shades will be used for accentuate small items and frames. We have arranged a tasteful make-up table with a round mirror next to the bed (seeing that now the bed will be aligned to the wall mounted TV screen on the other side of the room) so we have thought to take advantage of this remaining space. Even the doggie bed, next to the master bed, might be turquoise or similar so as to match to the entire room color palette. Under the TV (on the wall between bath’s entry and walk-in closet) there will be a wall cabinet, perfect for storage small items or lipsticks, nail polish etc. always ready to use and store.


MASTER WALK-IN CLOSET
As a first step, you should take advantage of the little recess on the right on the entry: we suggest to install a rail shoe rack on top of the wall, allowing you to restore order while maintaining a beautiful space with an easy organizing solution. Under it, you should put some jewelry holder (you could also DIY in some easy ways) and some hangers for scarves, belts and bags. On the left of the walk-in closet, you should organize your dresses and coats on top and put some drawers chest or dresser on the bottom as a linen closet or for out-of-season dresses.


MASTER BATHROOM
An important solution to stash makeup, perfume, some most used jewelry and other accoutrements is to install a jewelry cabinet between bath tub and toilet: you could use a vintage medicine cabinet, an old wooden cabinet or DIY. Regarding colors, you can upholster some parts of the wall with some white/pink/silver mosaic tiles and taking cool-white as base color, as a symbol of cleanliness and order. As a window cover, you can put a flat fold roman shade with a modern fabric pattern: it adds the perfect amount of punch to this room.


KITCHEN / DINING / LIVING AREAS
As stated, our goal is to create an open feel and integrated area for kitchen, dining and living. Currently, the kitchen is completely white: although nowadays white is became a modern and trendy color, if you want to have more personality we suggest to painted in a worn shade of yellow the kitchen and the dining areas (above kitchen cabinets and the walls backward the dining benches). Moreover, you could change the white backsplash with a yellow / orange mosaic tiles: in this manner we will have a warm kitchen with white modern cabinets. You could also extend the countertop of the island in order to obtain more space for food prepping. Regarding dining area, we suggest to complete the benches with a seatback and some cushions with modern pattern fabric (you can see some examples on crateandbarrel.com) and replace the existing chairs with two “Eames Plastic Side Chairs” available in different modern colors, from mustard to mauve gray. On the dining walls, we suggest to hang some pictures and family photos (perspective views clearly reveal the most significant features of this new arrangement): by definition, living room and kitchen areas are the social settings of the house, where the main activities of the whole family are carried out so there is no better place for family pictures. Next to the benches, there also some space for dog's food & water bowls: as you can see in the perspective views, on the walls there will be some picture of the pet that will point out the dog area in an elegant way. In addition, the living area will become a wide leisure area highlight by a grey painted wall with a white shelf, white picture frames and some colorful photos, paints or posters. A new modern carpet will underline the living area and also you could put an armchair next to the coffee table. In front of the wide sofa, there will be a new TV bench in walnut veneer with legs of solid ash that will bring a warm and natural feeling to the entire room.


LIVING NOOK
For this small but important area, we find inspiring the idea of a workout space with grey wall (possibly) a large mirror and an elegant cabinet with 2 drawers in walnut veneer with deep shelves and large drawers in which you can store all the gym items.
The artist table will take place into the office area, next to the door and in from of the window facing the balcony.


OFFICE
Gathering from the client's requirements, we suggest to maintain the arrangement of “her desk”, that is in the corner opposite the entry door, next to the window and flipping “his desk” towards the closet, order to obtain an optimal space for work even both simultaneously in the office, without obstructions and tight spaces to manage with. Between the desks, there will be a lowered area with some drawers and enough space for scanner / printer etc. Next to the closet, there will be a bookshelf and next to “her desk” there will be a filing space. On walls, on his side (that is left side of the room) there will be hung some large movie posters and awards; on “her side” there will be a sizable space for some graphic posters, arts, photos etc.


BALCONY
In order to create a warm forest feel, we suggest to refresh your balcony with a wooden floor decking: the decking can be cut if you need to fit it around a corner and you can easily take it apart and put together again if you want to clean the floor underneath. In addition to this, you should cladding the flower boxes and bbq stand with some wood planks, even on the wall next to the office’s window. In this way, you will designed a warm and welcoming balcony, an ideal place to sit and relax, enjoying the beautiful views of the mountains and the ocean.


CONCLUSIONS
In this step of the project we focused on give uniformity of style to the inner space: as you can see in the following perspective views, we have highlighted only main spaces instead of all the aspects. This is an essential step for helping clients to understand the potentiality of inner space without get sidetracked from other factors.

Anyway, a unifying color palette that could bring together this airy, bright open space and therefore give uniformity of style will consist of neutral colors (white / gray / black and shades) in order to arouse, especially in modern cozy spaces, great elegance, neatness and harmony with some colored spot: worn yellow / white for kitchen / dining areas and grey / white for living areas. A hint of worn turquoise / aquamarine / white will be used for bedroom’s main wall and other items in addition to dark wood: an invigorating and regenerating color that clearly remind to the shades of the sea. Guest bathroom will be a modern and elegant bath, with some grey / charcoal tiles and the soft hues of nature that are gaining popularity, especially in bathroom. Master bathroom will become a fine, classy and refined bath despite its size, with a touch of feminine carefreeness and tranquility due to pink and fuchsia shades and tones.

The solutions here proposed has to be considered as a concept: it is very flexible in terms of colors, placement, finishes and may be subject to variations or adjustments if you decide to adopt this solution and further specifications may be taken in the next step of the project.
