Small Space, Big Idea
Spatial Reorganization of an Inefficient Room in Florence
The room provided within the scope of the Florence competition posed serious challenges due to its narrow shape, inefficient layout, and lack of functional zones. Our aim was to transform this limited space into a multi-functional environment that integrates living, working, and storage needs in the most efficient way possible.
Elevated Bed with Storage Below
To reclaim valuable floor area, we raised the bed and utilized the space beneath it for closed storage. This solution not only optimized vertical volume but also allowed the room to breathe at ground level.
Integrated Workspace and Bookshelf
A compact desk was positioned adjacent to the elevated bed, accompanied by a vertical bookshelf. This created a dedicated study and reading corner—ideal for students or professionals working from home—without compromising spatial fluidity.
Optimized Layout and Flow
All elements were arranged along the longitudinal axis of the room, ensuring maximum circulation and eliminating dead zones. The interplay of horizontal and vertical volumes introduced a clean, functional rhythm throughout the interior.
Conclusion
This design proves that even the most inefficient spaces can be radically transformed through thoughtful planning. The result is not just a new layout—but a redefined relationship with space itself: functional, adaptable, and emotionally resonant.
