After spending more than a week trying to rework the layout, it became apparent that the simplest option would be the best one. Here, all the existing walls and door openings are left as they are. There is no need of any demolition work.

I have suggested a dry/wet segregated layout for the existing bathroom, but even that may be left as it is only changing the bathtub to a shower. You may alos consider having a sliding door for this bathroom.

As suggested by you, the existing flooring may be sanded wown and repolished to give a lighter oak wood finish. The same can be done to the wall panelling or matte finish paint may be applied as suggested in the colour layout. The overall colour scheme is kept very neutral so that the individual students/occupants can express themselves as they wish by adding coloured artworks, artifacts or bedsheets to their own rooms. The common room furniture has a slight feeling of luxury while in the bedrooms, priority is given to practical storage units.
