housing - small-apt
DESCRIPTION
Our concept is based on the definition and reorganization of the interior space: according to the client’s requests, this flat will be rearranged in order to create a welcoming, bright and modern home for a couple, in order to meet as many needs as possible.
First of all, we started our concept with some considerations regarding spaces and current setting of the whole flat. Gathering from the client’s description and photos, now the inner space is inadequately arranged and fragmented by several rooms of different sizes: the hallway appears out of proportion compared to the whole floor plan, the bath / toilet area seems too limited and nonfunctional, the living room seems a little stifling due to its modest dimension and the home office room is untapped.
Our project idea aims to re-arrange the flat, removing the walls in charge of this fragmentation so we will have a formal separation between the living area and the sleeping area with a more coherent open space, a bigger bathroom and a wide bedroom, close to the client’s request.
The hallway and the bathroom will be re-designed in order to take advantage of the wide bearing wall and create a new storage space on its right side: the doorway of the most private area of the flat will be shifted on the left compared to the main entrance area and a custom bookcase with a sliding door will work as a buffer element between the social and private area. In this way, we will limit the great weight of the main entrance and create an additional room (with several use, depending on the solution) aside of the new bigger bathroom. The master bedroom will be extended with a wide wardrobes area and some drawers; the wall between the home office room and the living room will be demolished in order to obtain an open space: By definition, living room, dining room and kitchen areas are the social settings of the house, where the main activities of the whole family are carried out. There won’t be any partitions between these spaces: a partition here is useless and certainly represent a fragmentation of a space that has the same function, allowing to exploit full natural light and obtain an environment friendly and bright room.
SOLUTION “A”
Near the entrance, there will be a new dining area with a 6 seats table; the sliding door will lead into a wide vanity room with a sink, mirror and storage elements. There will be a laundry area with washer and dryer between the vanity room and the new bath area with a large shower with frameless sliding glass door. On the other side of the bearing wall there will be a new open space with living area and a breakfast nook next to the kitchen: in this way, the current nook will be replaced with some new base cabinet in order to increase the storage space into the kitchen.
SOLUTION “B”
Near the entrance, there will be a new guest area with a sofa bed and an armchair: it will be a leisure area, a social area where it will be possible to entertain (like an extension of the living area) and accommodate guests (sofa-bed is quick and easy to convert into a bed). It will be formal and social at the same time, perfect for sitting while reading a book or just to clear the mind after an all day work. The sliding door will lead into a wide vanity room with a sink, mirror and storage elements. There will be a laundry area with washer and dryer between the vanity room and the new bath area with a large shower with frameless sliding glass door. On the other side of the bearing wall there will be a new open space with living area and a dining area next to the kitchen with a 6 seats table: even here, the current nook will be replaced with some new base cabinet in order to increase the storage space into the kitchen.
SOLUTION “C”
Near the entrance, there will be a dining area with a 6 seats table; the sliding door will lead into a functional hallway: on the left, there will be the bathroom with vanity area sink with mirror and a washer machine on the other side and, separate from the vanity, toilet, bidet and a large shower with frameless sliding glass door. On the right of the hallway that leads to the master bedroom, the will be a small guest bath with toilet, sink with mirror and a storage space for the dryer.
SOLUTION “D”
Near the entrance, there will be a dining area with a 6 seats table; the sliding door will lead into a functional hallway: on the left, there will be the bathroom with vanity area sink with mirror and some storage space on the other side and, separate from the vanity, toilet, bidet and a large shower with frameless sliding glass door. On the right of the hallway that leads to the master bedroom, the will be a small laundry area with washer, dryer and (eventually) a little sink, in addition to some storage space.
SOLUTION “E”
On the other side of the bearing wall there will be a new open space with living area: in this solution, we find inspiring the idea of a wide sofa area in order to entertain guests with a 3 seats sofa and two armchairs. There will be a different arrangement of the TV screen and its storage units in order to foster the social appearance of this open space.
The solutions here proposed have to be considered as a concept: they are very flexible in terms of colors, placement, finishes and may be prone to variations or adjustments if you will decide to adopt one of these solutions or mixing them. Further specifications may be taken in the next step of the project.
