Description

Goals: keep fire place as central motif, draw the natural ambient inside, provide spatial simplicity, organize functionally, enrich visually!

With small spaces one thing is always great: everything is reachable by the hand. Yet, this space has this amazing asset of being exposed to the surroundings on two sides. Nature exists as extension of the room itself and the main idea is to draw nature inside and make it part of the interior ambient. With the existing elements like dark ceiling and fireplace that stands at the very center of the room, basic intervention in the space would be to make walls bright, apply same principle of wood planking on the inside as on the porch with wooden planks in the same shade as on the ceiling, provide ceramic tile floor in the kitchen and to create false ceiling above the kitchen and the bar.
Organization itself set the challenge of keeping the fire place as center of the room, while defining different functional units as visually circled, but connected. Curved paths define spaces of living room which part is fireplace itself, study placed bellow the window in order to provide natural light source, kitchen and dining room. Spaces are defined by dark wooden planks of the floor set in different directions, as shown in presentation/ this way of flooring already exists outside on the porch/. That way spatial simplicity is kept, but, visually, spaces are defined without setting walls. Hanging chair has found its place on transition between living room and dining room, mostly as visual barrier, but its position allows it to be used as part of both areas. Also, mobile coffee tables are imported to be at service when needed, but put aside while not in use.
Materials. Dark wood to match the ceiling, dark iron, glass, textile in pink ash and orange, painting on the wall to fill the gap between windows/ painter: Guy Denning, strong contrast in colors, visually effective, portrait.
This way priority of keeping natural ambient without importing heavy elements is achieved. Therefore, the iron wired chairs and tables combined with wood and glass, elements of décor to match, bowls with plants are used to create vivid space that interlaced with surrounding nature delivers visually rich interior ambient.
