Dear architects,
I opened this contest so that you can help me on renovating and furnishing my house.
It is an apartment in a building at the 5th floor of 6 and it faces on three sides:
composition: entrance door in the central corridor;
a first big bathroom set in a previous renovation by the union of a small bathroom with an adjacent roomneigh, removing the inner wall;
both of them have a south-facing window; in that renovation it was also created a storage room using a part of the room;
huge living room with two french doors on two respective balconies: one facing south, the other facing east on a double balcony linked to the one of the kitchen;
kitchen with sliding door to access and french door onto a balcony facing east;
a first double bedroom with window facing east;
a second bathroom with a north-facing window;
a second bedroom with french window on a balcony facing north.
The refurbishment includes:
re-design of the huge bathroom to restore the room, optimizing space to have a little more space for the bathroom or alternatively a storage room but at the same time the small room. This room would be used by occasional guests and also as a studio/place alternative to the living room and must be furnished taking this into account.
the entrance should be furnish possibly with solutions to create storage/wardrobe area well-integrated and barely visible to do not weighing it down too much, and a seat;
being the living room very bright, I was thinking to remove the archway from the hall you see in the photo and have instead a sliding double doors with windows to let more light into the corridor but, at the same time, be able to segregate the living room.
I considered also the glass blocks, even to illuminate the dressing room from the bathroom, but I’m not convinced; you to suggest me!
Kitchen: unfortunately as it is right now is not well exploited resulting small; closing the access from the hallway and open it in the living room does not convince me as would be forced to pass the living room to access it. So I would prefer that you manage to find other solutions to optimize space. Composition: two sinks, floor, cooking area, oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, table and seats.
I would refreshing completely the floors, using definitely wood in the bedroom: I like white brushed oak or gray porcelain stoneware in brushed wood effect for the rest of the house, especially the living room. Bathrooms do not know .. waiting for your ideas.
Radiators to be replaced: I like the tall steel radiators.
Interior doors to be replaced and heighten.
Windows are made of white painted wood to be fixed or replaced according to your project. I expect also recommendations about the curtains as I do not like them so much as I prefer bright rooms and therefore simple and modern solutions.
Except from what I’ve mentioned above I would like to minimize the walls demolition/construction unless the benificials are exclusive.
Balcony to the east: I would like sone ideas on how to raise the parapet (glass or st.st structure?)
In addition to the colors already mentioned, I like the neutral colors, the gray, taupe and ecru but also the wall paneled with stone if not too heavy and used partially to decorate.
As I have to refresh the floors I have the chance to re-arrange the lighting points; I would like to receive precise information from you about that in the light scheme, taking into account the layout of the furniture, as well as regards the materials to be choosen (taps, tiles, walls color, color internal doors, plates color, etc …)
The restructuring should be in a modern way, with possibly some vintage/old style elements to contrast. It should prefer the functionality with large and bright spaces, easy to clean (furniture full height, closed shelves to protect from the dust …).
In the projects evaluation I will pay special attention to the indication of materials to be used, to the detailed choice of the furniture and lights and to the style and colors matching.
The budget that I have set is 60,000 Euros including all the furniture (that I do not have).
